Amsterdam is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Europe. It's a melting pot of cultures and lifestyles and is consistently ranked as one of the most artsy cities. It's this diversity that drew us to Amsterdam, but more than that, it's the open-mindedness and inclusivity that makes this city unique.
Here in Amsterdam we teamed up with stylist and salon owner Glenn van Dijke. Glenn started HEADQUARTERS (http://www.headquartersbeauty.nl) back in 2001 at a really young age. He always liked the influx of different cultures and international consumers – which inspired him to break out of his native language Dutch and give his salon an international name.
“Hairdressing to me is giving people a good feeling, making them grow and giving them their own identity.”
- Glenn van Dijk
HEADQUARTERS is located in De Pijp – one of the most diverse and vibrant districts of Amsterdam. With many different side streets, shops and restaurants – indulging all tastes, budgets and many different cultures – there’s a very special spirit in this neighborhood – everyone’s learning from each other.
Glenn’s favorite Amsterdam look is a HIGHstyle styleequation with a lot of texture, which he creates mainly with his hands and elastic bands – and of course, KMS products.
START with using ADDVOLUME Shampoo to cleanse the hair and give it some body, STYLE with CURLUP Perfecting Lotion and THERMASHAPE Shaping Blow Dry, to bundle it. FINISH with HAIRSTAY Working Hairspray. Watch the video to see how Glenn created the look.

To catch inspiration and relax, Glenn likes to take the ferry to the north of Amsterdam or to Knsm island – a man-made island in the docklands of Amsterdam, where you can marvel at the extraordinary, modern architecture.
For the local feeling, Glenn recommends visitors the street Haarlemmerdijk in the popular Jordaan district, with many boutiques, restaurants and bars – apart from mainstream. Artists are likely to be found in the district Bos En Lommer, which is a very hip district at the moment.
Glenn enthuses about his city: “In Amsterdam, you can find inspiration in many different places. People inspire each other – different influences are coming together.
It feels like you’re traveling, you speak to so many people. “
